Robert Frost Poem

WARNING! This is the first time I am using the site to complete an assignment but hopefully everything works out. This assignment is very similar to the work we did with music lyrics and symbolism. Below you have a poem by Robert Frost, a famous American poet, who used symbolism. Think about the words that create symbolism. Remember to use the site: Dictionary of Symbolism. To respond to the questions just post a comment. Your post should answer these questions; 1) What ideas or visuals create the strongest symbolism? 2) What is the symbolism created? 3) What is the main idea of the song and does symbolism help you in discovering the idea?

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

-- Robert Frost

Or post a comment on the symbolism of my T-shirt.

1) When he said that two roads diverged into a yellow wood and when he said that the other path he looked down was a better claim because it had wanted wear.

2) He was saying that he could see the first path clearly because it went straight and the path had been more used, but when he said that he wanted to use the other pathbecause he wanted to be his own person, and not follow anybody elses footsteps.

3) He is saying that he wanted to not follow anybody elses footsteps , because he likes to be his own unique self and not try and follow everone else, so he took the path that was less traveled and it has made his life significantly better.

1) two roads diverged, long i stood
2) there are two roads that can be taken and the author has to choose between them.
3)symbolism does help in discovering the main idea of the song...the guy picks one of the roads to start going down and thinks that he's gona go for a little while and then turn around and go down the other one, but soon comes to find out that he has already made a decision and that decision will lead to another decision. so basically, he's stuck.

1. The ideas that that create symbolism are the thought of him traveling on a road of yellow wood. Yellow symbolises goodness and warmth, but then he has a hard choice in front of him.
2. Symbolism created is understanding he comes to at the end when he realizes that he cant make the choice again because one choice leads to more choices and thats just the flow of life.
3. The main idea is that you cant remake a choice you already made and even if it turns out bad the world keeps turning and you still get to make more choices in the future.

1) The idea that had the strongest symbolism was "two roads diverged into a yellow wood."

2) It symbolizes that he had two different ways to go down the path.

3) The main idea of the song was that he chose to go down the path that less people had traveled on, meaning he wanted to be different than all the rest.

1.When he says that eh took the one less traveled helped me think of how he actually knew which one was less traveled. He knew that if he went down a certain road it would be better.
2.The symbolism created was that he had to make a choice that he knew what he had to do.
3.The main idea is that a person can make a choice that no one else will make and in the end it will show that it is better for hi after all.

1.The ideas that create the strongest symbolism is "the two roads diverged in yellow stone."
2.The symbolism created is when he explains that there is two roads diverged in yellow stone, one grassy and wanted wear, one with leaves no step had trodden black, so basically one path was never traveled before. And he was the one who chose the path that was not traveled. Which made him happy because come to find out it was worth the journey.
3.The main idea of this song is how the man chose to take the longer path. Symbolism does help me to understand the idea of the song.

1. The idea of two roads diverging in a yellow wood creates the strongest symbolism.

2. The symbolism created is something so simple seeming like a huge choice. The yellow is enlightenment and the roads diverging is choice.

3. The main idea is the choice the narrator made to go the way that was less traveled and how it changed his life.

#1- The symbolism is the road not taken

#2- The symbolism creates a choice; do it or don't do it.

#3- He is saying that the in there is always a road to take. Buy it or not, run there or not, drive there or not, etc...
